The Rat & Magpie

The Rat & Magpie 01 © Carl Milner 2012
The title ‘The Rat & Magpie’ may sound like a quaint ‘Old English’ pub but alas it’s what we had in our garden at the studio over lunchtime, a Rat and a Magpie treating us to a display of the old ‘Cat & Mouse’ each going hell for leather trying to kill each other, neither got the upper hand I’m glad to say, but the rat seemed to think it owned the garden after its encounter and stayed on the back lawn for the rest of the afternoon.

  1. ..and then there are the days when the subjects come right to your “studio”… how lovely.
I’ve never seen a ‘magpie’ before. quite fancy in their feathered little tuxedos, aren’t they (my question mark is on the fritz) Thanks for the show.

    1. The magpies are quite a noisy ‘bully’ kind of bird, so there not the most favourite of feathered creatures in our parts… Thanks again Hope for the kind words 🙂

  2. Wow … Even better than the insta ones, didn’t realise there were bits missing!
Next years country file calendar entry???

  3. What a fabulous set of photos! I have to say I’m a little jealous! What a great thing to have seen. I have been trying to get some decent shots of magpies ( not rats!) but they seem to be a little camera shy near me! 🙂

    1. Thanks 🙂 …We have 2 that frequent the garden at work everyday, yesterday another pair arrived and mayhem happened…I’ve never seen birds fight like they did… pity my camera was in the car 😦
