Still ticking..150 Years Later

The design brief called for a hall to hold 8,000 people standing, a council chamber, mayoral suite, council offices, courtrooms, judge’s chamber, cells and accommodation for the police and a gaoler.
Cuthbert Brodrick, a young unknown architect from Hull, received £200 for winning the architectural competition and work began in 1853.
