Weekly Photo Challenge: Forward

Rush hour in Leeds at ‘Blue-Hour’ with everyone looking Forward to getting home.

The Photography term ‘blue hour’ came from the French expression l’heure bleue a period of twilight each morning and evening where there is neither full daylight nor complete darkness, this time is considered so special for us photographers because of the quality of the light.

The phrase is also used to refer to Paris immediately prior to World War I, which was considered to be a time of relative innocence and reflection for looking forward.

Carl & Paula WordPress Weekly Photo Challenge Kiss
The ‘KISS’ theme for the WordPress Weekly Photo Challenge was one not to miss, but this old photo-booth shot from me and ‚̧Wifey’s ‘courting’ days is more of a full-on Snog than a Kiss…what can I say we were a passionate couple back then.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Beyond

Wordpress Weekly Photo Challenge BeyondThis weeks WordPress Weekly Photo Challenge asked us if we had a photo which invites the viewer to look beyond? Are there hidden depths in the background?  Is there a reason why the viewer should look beyond? and if so, tell you!

The above image was taken last Monday on a lunchtime walk away from the studio, but! it’s what laid beyond this wintery inviting lane that was a sad sight to see, especially after the weekend of cold sleet and snow. What I found was this sad, wet, cold and lonely fellow (below) in the field, although I did took a few pictures, he was especially glad to see me, as his supply of hay had run out and the only bits left where on my side of the fence, so I duly fed him all I could find…which I think he was quite glad of.

Just after I took a pic of these horses, the owner turned up in a 4×4 with a few bales of warm hay… a happy end of sorts.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Illumination

International Space Station over the UK Leeds © Carl Milner 2013

So many natural things¬†illuminate¬†the night sky where I live, but for me my favourite is the second brightest one (which is man-made)… The International Space Station (ISS), It’s easy to see why considering its length and width is about the size of a football field and that¬†it completes 15.7 orbits per day,¬†travelling¬†at a speed of¬†17,500 mph, 248¬†¬†miles above the Earth in the¬†Thermosphere.

So you can see why for this weeks WordPress¬†Photo Challenge: Illumination I’ve submitted two long exposure images I’ve taken of the ISS, the top one is composed of 7 stacked 25Sec frames at F/5.6 ISO 100 and the bottom one is 4 stacked frames at 30Sec¬†at F/3.5 ISO 100

My 2012 in Pictures

I’ve tried to pick my best pictures I’ve taken in 2012 and have those pictures hopefully tell you a visual story about my first ‘full’ year on MilnersBlog, every image has a caption and relates to a blog post I’ve done in 2012.

This post is part of the brilliant WordPress Weekly Photo Challenge which has introduced me to so many brilliant bloggers and like-minded photographers.
Happy New Year to you all
