Star Wars GIF’s

Star Wars At-At Walker

Awesome Star Wars AT-AT ‘All Terrain Armored Transport’ animated GIF from DKNGDan Kuhlken and Nathan Goldman’ who commissioned the incredible Down the Street Designs to animate their original work.

I also is the Star Wars GIF he first footage from Episode VII The Force Awaken?Star Wars Episode VII Millennium Falcon Teaser

The GIF was originally spotted and uploaded at Making Star Wars. There are no details on where it came from, or how they got it. All they are implying is that this could be a cut from the much whispered-about Star Wars: The Force Awakens teaser trailer that has been rumored to premiere sometime before the end of the year. In fact Slashfilm is now reporting from “good sources” (Mr J.J. Abrams) that the teaser trailer will be shown in a limited number of theaters during the Thanksgiving Holiday weekend, although it will only be shown in America… WHAAAAAAT!

But until then, we must speculate. The appearance of this GIF on-line coincides with the rumour (from Badass Digest) that the first Star Wars: Episode 7 teaser trailer would end with the Millennium Falcon “firing blasters, coming right at the camera.” And that is exactly what this GIF is. Then again, a GIF like this would be very easy to fake. The lens flare feels almost too obvious and the CG looks a little “meh,” so I’m leaning towards no, but it would be cool if it was the real deal. Then again, again, as Making Star Wars points out, the creators of this mysterious footage did get the radar replacement dish right, so these people know their stuff.

3D Nebula

This has to be one of the coolest GIF’s I’ve ever seen: the Elephant Trunk Nebula IC1396 mapped as a 3D/Lenticular image by J-P Metsavainio. He uses a single image he’s captured and then uses surface modelling software True Space to create these amazing animated GIF.

His astronomical imaging is a true mixture of art, science and technique combined to create these wondrous visions…as he say…“The art part is the most important for me, even though my images are scientifically correct”

What J-P Metsavainio has to say about his creation process

Since astronomical objects are too far away, no real parallax can be imaged. So to do that, I have developed a method to turn my images to various 3D-formats. My work flow is based on scientific data from the object, distance and the source of ionization are usually known. The different types of the nebulae has typical structures, pillar like formations must point to the source of ionization, the radiation pressure forms kind of hollow area, inside of the nebula, around newly born stars, dark nebulae must be at front of the emission ones to show, etc…. rest of the missing information is then replaced with an artistic vision.

The whole process is pretty much like sculpting!

I turned the original 2D-image to 3D by using a surface modelling software (TrueSpace).
Image is first divided to layers by its content; each layer is then projected to a 3D-surface. To have good and realistic forms, I did use the software, Bmp2CNC, it converts the shades in the image to a 3D-form. I have semi-automated the whole process, it’ll takes about 20-min. to make a 3D model like in this example is used.

Type in the Dark

You know how I love ‘GIF’s’ on MilnersBlog….the Graphics Interchange Format that was originally introduced by CompuServe in 1987, but it’s now truly inspiring how these ‘simple’ GIF Animations are now expanding to really become a new and true art-form, none more so than this typographical one by MountStara Motion Graphic Designer and 3D Illustrator from Fukuoka in Japan who is seriously ‘raising-the-bar’ in the field of Digital GIF animations, especially with his latest project Hidden Typography
