The 10 Possible Titles for ‘Star Wars: Episode IX’

With Star Wars: Episode IX now under a year away and we still don’t even know what the movie’s title will be, and how it will offer closure on the current trilogy, but the entire Skywalker saga. But this hasn’t stopped the internet from coming up with potential titles for Episode IX, and some of them are pretty awesome!.
So I’ve rounded up the best leaks, rumours, and theories on the title of Star Wars: Episode IX, as well as creating a high-resolution for the each of the Star Wars IX titles.

So here are the ten best possible titles, which I feel like there’s a pretty good chance one of them could be it…or I could be wrong.

1: Star Wars Episode IX Son of Darkness
This is one of the most current rumours to potential reveal the official Star Wars: Episode IX title. It comes from a Reddit who claims the person who provided him with the Episode IX title previously gave him info that was correct, so he is assuming the “Star Wars: Son Of Darkness” title is legit.

“Son Of Darkness” was a line actually spoken by Snoke to Kylo-Ren in The Last Jedi, when Snoke used The Force to turn Rey to Kylo and said, “My worthy apprentice, Son of Darkness, heir apparent to Lord Vader, where there was conflict I now sense resolved, where there was weakness, strength. Complete your training and fulfil your destiny.” After another exchange, Kylo then uses The Force on Rey’s lightsaber and kills Snoke.

…Star Wars: Son Of Darkness sounds a great title.

Star Wars Episode IX Rule of Two Title Logo Hi Resolution HD
Star Wars Episode IX Rule of Two Title Logo Hi Resolution HD

2: Star Wars Episode IX Rule of Two
The Rule of Two was a Sith philosophy mandating that only two Sith Lords could exist at any given time: a master to embody the power of the dark side of the Force, and an apprentice to crave it. But what if this Star Wars Episode IX title can be applied to Kilo and Rey, thus ending the Rule of Two and the Sith and they bring balance to the Force.

Star Wars Episode IX A New Order Title Logo Hi Resolution HD
Star Wars Episode IX A New Order Title Logo Hi Resolution HD

3: Star Wars Episode IX A New Order
This Star Wars Episode IX could be some sort of middle ground between Sith and Jedi, with the Skywalker saga ending, then what comes next? The New Order could be a reference to the First Order’s new reign, or most likely, the Sith and Jedi becoming one.

Star Wars Episode IX A Spark of Hope Title Logo Hi Resolution HD
Star Wars Episode IX A Spark of Hope Title Logo Hi Resolution HD

4: Star Wars Episode IX A Spark of Hope
Could the final scene of The Last Jedi have also set the stage for a film that is expected to focus on the Resistance effort to find new collaborators in their Rebellion against the First Order.

Star Wars Episode IX The Order of Ren Title Logo Hi Resolution HD
Star Wars Episode IX The Order of Ren Title Logo Hi Resolution HD

5: Star Wars Episode IX The Order of Ren
This Star Wars Episode IX title is one of my favourites, with Kylo Ren now in charge, so why not rename the First Order after him. This title would also position Episode IX to focus on the Knights of Ren, who are still a BIG mystery

Star Wars Episode IX The Balance of the Force Title Logo Hi Resolution HD
Star Wars Episode IX The Balance of the Force Title Logo Hi Resolution HD

6: Star Wars Episode IX The Balance of the Force
What if Rey and Kylo can make peace by the end of Episode IX, that will finally put an end to the endless battle between Sith and Jedi. Balancing the force would put a cap on the Skywalker trilogy without having to kill off the last remaining Skywalkers.

ALTERNATIVE OPTION: Red (Sith) & Blue (Jedi) Make Purple

Star Wars Episode IX The Last Skywalker Title Logo Hi Resolution HD
Star Wars Episode IX The Last Skywalker Title Logo Hi Resolution HD

7: Star Wars Episode IX : The Last Skywalker
Star Wars : A New Hope was originally titled The Adventures of Luke Skywalker, so IX is supposed to be the culmination of the entire Skywalker saga, and this title plays directly into that theory. Much in the same way The Last Jedi title raised the question of who it was referring to. So it could be Leia or Kylo Ren (or maybe even Rey if J.J. Abrams decides to just undo Episode VIII…Hopefully).

Star Wars Episode IX The Rebellion Reborn Title Logo Hi Resolution HD
Star Wars Episode IX The Rebellion Reborn Title Logo Hi Resolution HD

8: Star Wars Episode IX : The Rebellion Reborn
More Reddit rumours has it Episode IX is largely focussing on the Resistance building up a new Rebellion army on the outer rim of the galaxy, so this title would support that leak. It also reflects the fact that with the First Order now basically in charge of the galaxy the Resistance is shifting back into being a Rebellion against the First Order.

Star Wars Episode IX Shadow of the Empire Title Logo Hi Resolution HD
Star Wars Episode IX Shadow of the Empire Title Logo Hi Resolution HD

9: Star Wars Episode IX : Shadow of the Empire
This was J.J. Abrams original title for The Force Awakens, and it could work here with the First Order on the rise and looking more ‘Empire’ like every day. Also with the rumour flying about Darth Vader’s ghost appearing in Episode IX, this now makes even more sense. And with an added treat, it was also the name of a Nintendo 64 Star Wars game.

Star Wars Episode IX Revenge of the Jedi Title Logo Hi Resolution HD
Star Wars Episode IX Revenge of the Jedi Title Logo Hi Resolution HD

10: Star Wars Episode IX : Revenge of the Jedi
This was at one point the planned title of Star Wars Episode VI : Return of the Jedi, and would be a nice reference to the original trilogy, and also helps set up the big conflict between Kylo (Sith) and Rey (Jedi).

BUT….What if?

But what if director J.J. Abrams can’t put an end on the entire trilogy with just one movie? Is it possible Star Wars could pull an Infinity War and end on a major cliffhanger?

….Star Wars: Episode X!! ??

Star Wars: Episode VIII Begins Filming

It’s official!! Director Rian Johnson (best known for Brick and Looper) has started rolling cameras on Star Wars: Episode VIII, according to Disney CEO Bob Iger.

Iger provided updates on the studio’s ever-expanding Star Wars universe during The Walt Disney Co.’s quarterly earnings call, touting the gargantuan financial success of the The Force Awakens. It is only the third film in history to collect more than $2 billion at the global box office, and the only domestic release to collect more than $900 million. In addition, he said it earned more than $3 billion globally in consumer products.

Iger said the company had a simple strategy for the future of Star Wars: don’t lose sight of what sold all those tickets and merchandise.

“There is no better way to propel this franchise into the future than producing quality products,” he said. “Filming of Star Wars: Episode VIII, the next chapter of the legendary saga, has just commenced and it will be in theaters December 2017. And production of Episode IX, a 2019 release, has also begun.”

A rumour that has been doing the Geek Rounds relating to filming is that a mysterious film production company named Space Bear Industries, which is widely believed to have been set up as a working title name for filming of the next Star Wars: Episode VIII film.

Space Bear Industries have also announced filming dates in the southern Croatian city of Dubrovnik next month, filming will take place from the 11th -16th of March 2016 and locations include the city’s famous stone walls, the main street that runs through the old town called Stradun, Banj beach and one of the city’s castles.

Daisy Ridley also got in on the Episode VIII act this week as well with this post on Instagram showing some flowers with a VIII tag at the bottom.

But what’s more interesting if you look closer, the flowers are from Kathleen Kennedy with a parts of note saying “Dear Daisy, As we begin this tremendous…appreciation of your d… Kathleen”

Even her latest post on Instagram taken by someone sounding remarkably like John Boyega showing her training at what looks like the backlot of Pinewood.

Going back to Bob Iger’s Disney Co.’s earnings report (which you can listen to his web-cast here) he said that production has also begun on  Star Wars: Episode IX which is directed by Colin Trevorrow (Jurassic World and Safety Not Guaranteed).

“Filming of Rogue One is virtually completed and we absolutely love what we’ve seen so far,” he said, of the heist story about Rebel plans to steal the blueprints for the original Death Star. “This is the first of a set of planned stand-alone stories and we’re already in preproduction on our next one, for release in May of 2018.” That one will be the “young Han Solo” movie, which The Lego Movie and 21 Jump Street directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller are making, based on a script by Lawrence Kasdan and his son Jon Kasdan.

Finally, Iger confirmed that the company planned to break ground later this year on new Star Wars Land attraction at Disneyland in Anaheim, California, and Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida.

The Star Wars Campfire

Even more great news from  D23, Walt Disney Studios Chairman Alan Horn announced that writer-director Colin Trevorrow will direct Star Wars: Episode IX, which is set for release in 2019.

Colin Trevorrow had this great statement to say about the Star Wars gig he’d just got assigned to…

“This is not a job or an assignment. It is a seat at a campfire, surrounded by an extraordinary group of storytellers, filmmakers, artists and craftspeople. We’ve been charged with telling new stories for a younger generation because they deserve what we all had—a mythology to call their own. We will do this by channeling something George Lucas instilled in all of us: boundless creativity, pure invention and hope.”

While production won’t begin for a few years, Trevorrow is heading to Lucasfilm this year to begin working with artists and his fellow Star Wars directors.

Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy had this to say about him

“Colin is someone I’ve been interested in working with ever since I saw Safety Not Guaranteed,” . “The power of that film paired with the enormous success of Jurassic World speaks volumes about his abilities both as a storyteller and skilled filmmaker. We are thrilled to have such an incredible talent as Colin join our family and step into the Star Wars universe.”
