We get our first close-up look at the Millennium Falcon. This Behind-the-scenes look at development on Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge was via the Disney Parks Facebook page! You’ll be to take the controls of the fastest ship of the galaxy in Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, one of two signature attractions coming to this all-new land at Disneyland (summer 2019) and Walt Disney World (fall 2019)

Star Wars Land – Episode VIII Update

At last a Star Wars Land Update after such a long period of quietness, we have a little bit of info on the progress of Star Wars Land’s construction and the announcement for additional content for the Star Tours attraction, alongside a new image showing what the park should look like at night, with the addition of Poe Dameron’s X-Wing from The Force Awakens, also it’s definitely good to hear that Episode VIII is going to be a part of the plan for future expansions to Star Tours. It sounds like Rogue One and the other spin-offs might not be so lucky, though, but that’s a small price to pay if it means that we’ll be getting more Star Wars content represented at Disneyland and Disney World.

Official Announcement below:

The creative minds at Walt Disney Imagineering are hard at work creating another world, or perhaps we should say a galaxy far, far, away…As Bob told D23, “We’re challenging ourselves to be as ambitious as possible with the development of the Star Wars-themed lands. We know the playbook in terms of how to make a ‘land’ and how to make an attraction. But incumbent with moving forward, is challenging ourselves to make it bigger and better than even sometimes we could have dreamed. I think the key word for me for the Star Wars lands that will distinguish them from everything else, with the unbelievable attractions we’re going to have, is the word ‘immersive.’” Disney fans feel that immersion when entering a land like Cars Land, but Bob feels the new Star Wars-themed lands will take that one step further: “Every element of that land will be in story.”

Destination D guests were the first to see what the Star Wars-themed land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios will look like at night in the stunning image seen above. A sharp-eyed Star Wars fan will notice the distinct details that will bring this land to life, including one of the signature attractions that lets you take the controls of the Millennium Falcon.

While we wait for this unbelievable land to arrive in this galaxy, Bob also shared that a new adventure will be added to Star Tours – The Adventures Continue, based on elements of the upcoming Star Wars: Episode 8.

We’re just getting started here at Destination D! Stay tuned to our live updates here on D23.com and on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat (Disney.D23) for more amazing adventures.

Star Wars Land : Sneak Peak

In April, Disney celebrated the official groundbreaking of Star Wars Land coming to Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts, and beginning today, Disneyland park guests can get a glimpse of this exciting and immersive experience, this awesome new image has been unveiled on the fence along Big Thunder Trail in Frontierland – one of the entry points to this never-before-seen planet in the Star Wars galaxy – revealing more about what guests will find in this all-new land.

Nestled between towering spires of rock, this thriving port contains a seemingly familiar architecture of markets, landing zones and buildings. Look closely and you may find hints of some of the thrilling experiences that are coming – like the Millennium Falcon peeking out of one of the cargo bays, marking the location where guests will get the opportunity to pilot the fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy.

The 14-acre land will be the largest-ever single-themed land expansion at Disneyland Resort… I can’t wait to visit it one day!!

Star Wars Land

At Disney’s D23 Expo, CEO Bob Iger made a huge announcement: the company is creating an enormous Star Wars-themed land for its parks. He told an audience of more than 7,500 fans that Star Wars themed lands will be coming to Disneyland park in Anaheim, California and Disney’s Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida, allowing us Star Wars fans to step into the stories from a galaxy far, far away…Oh YES!!

You can book my ticket in less than 12 parsecs for one of the parks main attractions, which allow us to board the Millennium Falcon and fly what is described as a “secret mission.” The other ride is a battle that pits us between the New Order and the Resistance from Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The parks will be populated by characters from the new movies as well as the classic Star Wars trilogy, and it sounds like quite a few fan favorites will be included. “You’d expect to find a cantina,” Iger said, “and there will be one.”

Disney’s Official Announcement

Ambitious plans to bring Star Wars to life in the two parks include creating Disney’s largest single-themed land expansions ever at 14-acres each, transporting guests to a never-before-seen planet, a remote trading port and one of the last stops before wild space where Star Wars characters and their stories come to life.

“I am thrilled to announce the next chapter in the long and exciting history between Disney Parks and Star Wars,” said Iger. “Through each new attraction and new land we create, we push the boundaries of what is possible. And as you can imagine, with Star Wars, we are taking that to a whole new level, with a whole galaxy to explore.”

These authentic lands will have two signature attractions, including the ability to take the controls of one of the most recognizable ships in the galaxy, the Millennium Falcon, on a customized secret mission, and an epic Star Wars adventure that puts guests in the middle of a climactic battle.
